How is a dj or a bouncer *high status*? It seems to me that this shows that status does not count for all that much in ONS……I know, I know, supposedly the bouncer is *high status* in *his circle*. So what? Women live in the wider society and have access to genuinely high status men, so being high status in a *niche* is meaningless, unless that niche is utterly isolated.

If you live in a small village isolated from the rest of the world where bouncers and djs are given power and wealth, then there the bouncer will be high status. If you live in a big city where a bouncer has almost no power and no wealth, he is hardly high status.
