This course explores the history of the Middle East from antiquity to present. The main focus of this course is the period from the 7th century AD to the present: Judaism, Christianity and Islam originated in the Middle East and continue to have important impacts on the politics, history and social dynamics of this region. There is no division of church and state in the Middle East. Although geographically this area is not large, several different states have emerged from various historical, religious, and social and poltical histories of such states Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
