Description

This course is designed to introduce students to the principles and practice of surgical t echnology. Topics include: hospotal organiza tion & physical environment of the operation room; ethical, moral and legal issues; patien t care & safety; asepsis & sterile technique; surgical pharmacology & anesthesia; preparat ion, care and handling of instrumentation, eq uipment and supplies used in the operating ro om; closure of the surgical wound, wound heal ing and classificatins, and the development o f a surgical consicience. Through a combinat ion of theory and laboratory practice, studen ts will be introduced to the basics of preope rative surgical case management. During this course, students will haave an opportunity f or hospical observatin in addition to laborat or practice.
